CHITWAN, Jan 11: Remains believed to be from a bus have been discovered along the banks of the Trishuli River in Dwandrang Besi, Ambukhaireni Rural Municipality–5 of Tanahun, raising fears that it could be one of the buses that went missing in Simaltal last year.
Police suspect the debris may belong to one of the two buses swept into the river by a landslide at Simaltal in Bharatpur Metropolitan City–29. The site where the remains were found lies about 200 meters downstream, on the Tanahun side, from the location where the buses disappeared.

According to Pratik Singh, chief of the Muglin Area Police Office, local fishermen alerted authorities after their fishing nets got stuck. When they dug into the sand to free the nets, they noticed what appeared to be parts of a bus and informed the police. Officers later confirmed that a bus-like structure was buried under sand, prompting excavation work at the site.
Singh said the visible parts appear blue in color, matching the description of the Ganapati bus that went missing at Simaltal, increasing the likelihood that the remains belong to the same vehicle. However, he added that confirmation would only be possible after the debris is fully recovered.
On July 13, 2024, two buses were swept into the Trishuli River along with a landslide on the Narayanghat–Muglin road section at Simaltal. The vehicles — a Ganapati bus (Ba 3 Kha 2495) and an Angel Deluxe bus (Ba 3 Kha 1516) — were carrying a total of 65 passengers.
District Police Office Chitwan Spokesperson DSP Rabindra Khanal said that 11 bodies were recovered following the accident, three people were injured and 51 passengers remain missing.
