Minister of State for Land Reforms and Management Man Bahadur Shahi and Minister of State for Women, Children and Social Welfare Ram Bachchan Yadav had asked for vehicles but the administration office refused to oblige.
“PAs (personal assistant) of the ministers had asked for vehicles but we said we couldn´t,” Chief District Officer (CDO) of Banke Birendra Bahadur Baniya said. “I don´t know whether they used police vehicles or hired them on their own,” Baniya added.
Departmental offices -- Land Reforms Office and Women Development Office -- provided vehicles to their respective ministers after refusal by the administration. Employees in districts have been protesting the tradition of providing vehicles and receiving the visiting ministers.
The Home Ministry had recently decided that district administration offices need not oblige the ministers after Minister of State for Agriculture Karima Begum manhandled Parsa CDO Durga Prasad Bhandari for not providing a suitable vehicle during her visit to the district.
