Annual meeting of ANN kicks off

KATHMANDU, Feb 16: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav on Thursday said that economic growth alone can´t curb the impacts of climate change in the Asian region. Stating that Asia was a crucial region for both economic growth and global change, President Yadav said, “The economic growth only is not sufficient to resolve the problem of climate change in the region.”



Inaugurating the annual meeting of Asian News Network (ANN) in the capital on Thursday, he stated that humanity is facing a common problem of climate change.[break]



“Media has a crucial role to emphasize the issues of climate change and its impact in the region.”



The two-day long program, jointly organized by Asian News Network (ANN) and Konrad Adenauer Stiftung, will hold discussions on “Himalayan system in a changing climate future and media´s role.”



The meeting is attended by various journalists from across the Asian region along with various environmentalists from Nepal. Meantime, Pana Janviroj, executive director of the ANN stressed on the need of creating an Asian network rather than depending upon Western countries.



“It is better to create a network of Asian countries to work on the serious issues of climate change,” he said.
