ADB lauds govt's commitment to reform

KATHMANDU, Jan 26: Visiting Vice President of Asian Development Bank (ADB) Zhao Xiaoyu on Tuesday said the government´s commitment to reform and development agenda was very encouraging, particularly against the backdrop of a challenging political environment.



He also stressed on the need to continue the reforms. "Continuing commitment to push for reform and achievement of development goals is critical to support the peace process and achieve the long-term goal of poverty reduction in this transitional period," a press release quoted Zhao as saying. Zhao, who is on a two-day Nepal visit, met with Minister for Physical Planning and Works, Minister for Finance, Minister for Energy and other senior government officials and consulted on ADB operations in the country following the approval of new Country Partnership Strategy (CPS) for Nepal for 2010-2012.



In these meetings, Zhao reiterated ADB´s continued commitment to assist Nepal to achieve its development objectives and underlined the importance of continuous improvement in project implementation to deliver results to the people of Nepal.



He stated that ADB would continue to support the development of large hydropower projects. Zhao is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal on Wednesday.
