KATHMANDU, Jan 30: The government is beginning soon the reconstruction of 100 police units destroyed during the insurgency. Nepal Police has received around Rs 800 million of which Nepal government´s contribution is 63.87 percent while DfID, Norway, Denmark and Finland governments have contributed 7.7, 13.4, 23.14 and 2.08 percents respectively.

According to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Bigyan Shrama, reconstruction works will start after a meeting with donors next week. "The preparation phase is over," he added.

Dozens of police units were partially or fully destroyed during the Maoist ´people´s war´ and they have remained utterly neglected during the four years of the peace process.

Majority of the destroyed units include local police posts, while others are area police posts and a few border police posts. Dhankuta district, one of the worst-hit by conflict, alone has seven posts that need reconstruction.
