US maintain winning streak, Jersey beat Fiji

KATHMANDU, Feb 21: The US defeated Bahrain in the Pepsi World Cricket League Division 5 on Sunday to maintain their winning streak. America enjoyed a 19-run victory over Bahrain at the Birendra Sainik Mahavidyalaya Ground, Bhaktapur.



Meanwhile, Jersey, which lost to hosts Nepal on Saturday, defeated Fiji by 9 wickets at the TU Ground Kirtipur on Sunday. [break]



The US, electing to bat, put up 273 runs in limited 50 overs losing 6 wickets. Opener Carl Wright and Orlando Baker started well and produced an opening partnership of 64 runs before Ashraf Yaqoob caught Wright (22 runs) off Qamar Saeed. Orlando also departed soon after Wright´s dismissal. Orlando (34 runs) was caught and bowled by Qamar.



Steve Massiah and Lennox Cush played defining knocks of the US innings and gave a 140-run third wicket partnership. Lennox smashed 91 off 90 balls before Zafar Zaheer bowled him out. Massiah scored 67 off 92 balls before Qamar caught him off Tahir Dar.



Zafar took three wickets, including that of Lennox, in the later part of the innings to restrict the US to 273 runs.



The US found Bahrain tough as they gave a strong reply. Shahzad Ahmed and Imran Sajjad produced a 55-run opening stand. Imran Awan trapped Shahzad leg before wicket as he scored 16 runs. However, Sajjad stood alongside Abdul Majeed on the crease to produce a 76-run third wicket partnership.







Lennox Cush bowled Sajjad (75 runs) out while Orlando Baker claimed the wicket of Majeed (47). Adil Hanif scored 46 runs in the middle order. However, Timory Allen and Kevin Darlington took two wickets each in the lower order to restrict Bahrain to 254 runs with eight balls to go in the innings. Lennox, who claimed two wickets and scored 91 runs, was adjudged man-of-the-match.



At the TU Ground, Jersey dominated Fiji and pulled off a nine-wicket victory with 177 balls remaining. Fiji, electing to bat, performed ordinary and were all out for 122 runs in 36.2 overs. Sekove Ravoka, Tikovanualevu Kida and Iniasi Cakacaka scored 25 runs each. Ryan Driver, Matt Hague and Ben Stevens claimed two wickets each for Jersey.



In reply, Jersey met the small target in 20.3 overs losing only a wicket. Opener Hague and Dean Morrison produced a 108-run opening partnership. Morrison scored 52 runs off 53 balls before Cakacaka took his wicket. Hague remained not out on 52 while Peter Gaugh was on 6 runs when Jersey met the target. Hague was adjudged man-of-the-match.
