KATHMANDU, Dec 6: At least two dozen ´disqualified´ combatants were injured when police intervened a torch rally organized by them at UCPN (Maoist) office, Parisdanda on Thursday evening. Seven of the injured are reported to be in critical condition.
"Our rally were intervened by the police when we arrived at Koteshwor," cordinator of the disqualified combatants protest committee Lenin Banjade said. [break]
´Disqualified´ combatants who have laid seized the Maoist office with various demands had staged a torch rally.
Security was stepped up in the area to prevent any untoward incidents.
The ex-combatants who were not verified by the UNMIN, like to call themselves as ‘discharged combatants’, have been demanding removal of ‘disqualified tag’, national felicitation certificate, allowances equivalent to combatants who opt for voluntary retirement and release their colleagues in police custody arrested during their protests, among others.
