Survey Office chief caught accepting bribe

LAHAN, May 5: Binod Kumar Barma, chief of the Survey Office in Lahan, was taken under control by a group of activists affiliated to Matrika Yadav-led CPN Maoist for allegedly demanding bribe money from a service seeker.



Barma was caught red-handed while accepting Rs 400 from Biseshwor Chaudhary of Bhadaiya-4, according to Birendra Yadav, district level leader of Matrika Yadav-led CPN Maoist.[break]



Yadav also said that they had to take the help of media persons to bring the incident to light after the police overlooked the incident. “Please don´t make a mountain out of a molehill. I had not accepted bribe money,” Barma pleaded with the journalists. He also returned the money to Chaudhary in the presence of the media persons.



Chaudhary, who visited the Survey Office to get the map of his land attested, said that Barma demanded bribe to approve the map. “First, he demanded Rs 1,000 but finally settled for Rs 400,” said Chaudhari.



Chief District Officer Anil Thakur said he would take action against the official for accepting bribe.
