The students union called the strike as to give pressure to the government to declare Manil Tamang martyr and demanding a million rupees as per compensation to the victim’s family.

Tamang, who was a student of Mechi Multiple Campus, Dhulabari, died in a clash between police and the students during Free Students’ Union’s election at Dhulabari Campus premises on March 18, 2009.

The group said that it was forced to shut down the schools since the government turned deaf over the students demands.
