His closest competitor was one-handed golfer Birendra Limbu. Limbu scored 36. The tournament was played over 18 holes under stableford format with 3/4 handicap allowance. [break]
Suman Rai won the best gross category with the gross stableford 32 points. Sushila Rai was the ladies´ winner with 29 points while Singa Bahadur Basnyat bagged the best senior golfer´s award.
Ang Tsering Sherpa, Rupendra Gurung and Sukra Rai won Closest to the Pin, Longest Drive and Most Birdies awards respectively.
Whitehouse enter basketball quarterfinals
KATHMANDU, Feb 20: The hosts Whitehouse entered into the quarterfinals of the girls´ category on Saturday during the Third U-19 Whitehouse Cup National Basketball Championship. Whitehouse defeated Golden Gate 39-31 to book berth in the last eight.
Whitehouse dominated the first quarter of the match played at the NSC Covered Hall. Whitehouse led the quarter 13-6. However, the second quarter settled at the score of 6-6 and Golden Gate bounced back in the third quarter with the score of 13-10.
In the final quarter, Whitehouse scored nine against six of Golden Gate and finally claimed the quarterfinal berth. Sama Tamang topscored for the winning side with 11 points.
Likewise, Triton, Golden Gate and Gyanodaya registered victories in the boys´ category.
Triton beat Baylor 45-28 as Khagendra scored 10 points for the winners. Meanwhile, Golden Gate defeated Future Breeds 41-14. Janis Thapaliya scored 11 points for Golden Gate.
Similarly, Gyanodaya thrashed Little Angels´ 54-36. Santosh Thapa led Gyanodaya to victory as he scored 18 points.
New Diamond, Deep Jyoti in girls´ volleyball final
KATHMANDU, Feb 20: New Diamond and Deep Jyoti schools entered the final of the First Girls´ Inter-School Valley-Wide Running Shield Volleyball Tournament on Saturday.
In the first semifinal match, hosts New Diamond edged past SEBS 25-17, 25-16, 25-17 in straight sets. In another semifinal, Deep Jyoti defeated Gyan Sudha 25-19, 25-9, 25-16.
SEBS and Gyan Sudha will compete for the third place.
The matches were held at the New Diamond Academy, Naikap.
Binita felicitated
KATHMANDU, Feb 20: Jaljala Secondary School awarded a cash prize of Rs 22,222 to wushu player Binita Maharjan, who won gold in the 11th South Asian Games, on Saturday. The school provided her with the cash and letter of appreciation.
Binita had completed her secondary education from the school.
National Sports Council Member Secretary Hari Babu Chaudhary felicitated Binita on the occasion.
