SPORTS BRIEFS: Ace, LACM register big wins

KATHMANDU, Nov 15: A hat-trick from Bishesh Lama helped Ace Institute hammer Rato Bangala 5-2 in the Toyota Football Frenzy 2010 inter-college five-a-side football tournament on Monday.



Prateek Shrestha and Bimarsha Rana also scored for Ace, while Utsab Neupane and Shreyas Pradhan scored apiece for Rato Bangala during the match held at the covered hall of the Dasharath Stadium.[break]



Likewise, Little Angels´ College of Management (LACM) ´B´ thrashed Nepal College of Management (NCM) 4-1, thanks to a hat-trick from Utsab Shrestha. Suraj BK scored another goal for LACM. Purushottam Silwal scored a consolation goal for NCM.



In other matches, Informatics ´B´, NAMES and IST College registered victories, while the hosts Kathmandu College of Management and Ace Higher Secondary School settled for a 1-1 draw.


Koirala re-elected Para Olympic president



Deepak Koirala has been re-elected president of the Nepal Para Olympic Committee. The 11th general convention of the committee held on Sunday elected a new 11-member committee led by Koirala. Kumari Niraula, Raju Humagain, Prakash Chiluwal and Dhundiraj Chalise are the vice-president, general secretary, secretary and treasurer of the committee, respectively.



Likewise, Rita Mukherjee Shah, Kumar Paudel, Pratap Raut, Pritamlal Shrestha, Naseeb Khadka and Prem Krishna Prajapati are the members.



Shrestha, Thapa lead



Rajendra Prasad Shrestha of Kathmandu and Krishna Thapa of Makawanpur jointly lead the standings with six points apiece on Monday after the completion of the seventh round in the Yala Cup Chess Tournament being held in Lagankhel. Shrestha shared points with Thapa in the sixth round and outplayed Sajin Maharjan in the other round. Thapa saw off Rabindra Shakya in the seventh round.



Himal Lama occupies the second spot with 5.5 points. FIDE Master Manish Hamal, Shyam Sundar Shrestha, Madan Krishna Kayastha, Rabindra Shakya, Sajin Maharjan and unrated Ram Singh Maharjan are jointly in the third position with five points each. Unrated Krishna Shah is in the fourth spot with 4.5 points.



Eighth and ninth round matches will be played on Tuesday.


´Shrestha´s achievement highest in Nepali bodybuilding´



Nepal Bodybuilding and Fitness Association (NBBFA) on Monday said that Nepali bodybuilder Shyam Shrestha has created history in the Second WBPF World Men´s Bodybuilding Championship held in Banaras, India, from October 27 to November 1.



Shrestha had secured third position in the 65 kg category at the championship. This is the biggest achievement in the history of Nepali bodybuilding at international level, NBBFA said. Somkhet Sameto of Thailand and Rased Mohamed Ali of the UAE had claimed first and second position, respectively, in the category.



Also during the championship, NBBFA second Vice-president and Asian judge Narayan Pradhan, NBBFA member and Asian judge Uday Bahadur Shrestha, Dinesh Shrestha and Pushpa Shrestha appeared in the exam for first class judge for world level. The results are yet to be published.
