Special Court slaps Chinese national with one-yr jail term

KATHMANDU, Dec 4: The Special Court (SC) on Tuesday sentenced a Chinese national one year in prison and slapped on him a fine of Rs 2.1 million and an equal amount in property confiscation, after finding him guilty in a money laundering case.



A bench of judges Gauri Bahadur Karki, Omprakash Mishra and Kedar Prasad Chalise, acting on the case filed by the anti-money laundering department, issued the verdict against Liu Xue Lin as per the Clause (3) Assets (Money) Laundering Prevention Act, 2008.[break]



In January, a joint team of Kathmandu District Forest Office, Nepal Police Headquarters, Central Investigation Bureau and Anti Money Laundering department had arrested the Chinese national with Rs. 22, 5000 in cash and a vehicle, among other things, from the premises of the Nepal Food Corporation office in Kathamndu. He used to run a vegetable and fishery farm inside the compound of the office.
