The Rana-led NOC met President Yadav on Monday to inform him of the Supreme Court verdict on the legitimacy of the NOC. [break]"We informed the president about the verdict and he suggested to us to stop all manner of disputes until the Asiad," said Rana. "He also advised us to solve disputes within sports through consensus."
The SC had given its verdict on October 4, authorizing the Rana-led NOC to manage NOC´s bank accounts. Earlier, Kamal Bahadur Chitrakar, a member of the Rana-led NOC, had filed a writ petition against former home minister Bam Dev Gautam´s decision to authorize the NOC headed by Dhruba Bahadur Pradhan to manage NOC´s bank accounts.
However, the Pradhan-led NOC has been corresponding with the organizing committee for the 16th Asiad and claiming that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) would not accept any committee other than the Pradhan-led NOC.
Rana, who is currently serving as Nepal´s ambassador to India and has been in Kathmandu since Friday, said his committee is in no mood to fuel the dispute before the Asiad.
"We are the only Olympic committee in Nepal and we have to be responsible for the athletes. We don´t want to create an unfavorable condition for the athletes on the eve of the Asiad. I hope we will take over the leadership after the Asiad as the Supreme Court has given its verdict," Rana said.
Rana informed that delegates from his committee would also visit Guangzhou during the Asiad to meet representatives of IOC and OCA. "IOC and OCA might be informed one-sidedly about the issue. We will describe everything to them with the help of our documents. We will take further steps after judging their attitude toward us," Rana said.
District Administration Office Kathmandu had scrapped the registration of NOC led by Rana during the period after then king Gyanendra´s coup, at a time when there was also another NOC, led by Kishor Bahadur Singh.
The two bodies had reached a consensus after then sports minister Radha Krishna Mainali intervened and registered the Rana-led NOC with the National Sports Council.
After the restoration of democracy, NOC conducted its election on March 13, 2007 and elected a committee led by Pradhan. Rana and his associates had also taken part in the election.
However, then home minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula later reinstated the Rana-led committee and allowed it to run NOC´s bank accounts. But, Gautam again altered the decision and gave recognition to the Pradhan-led committee.
Again controversy in kabaddi
All Nepal Kabaddi Association (ANKA) recognized by the National Sports Council (NSC) has expressed serious concern over women´s kabaddi team´s participation in the 16th Asian Games (Asiad) and requested the concerned authorities not to send kabaddi team in Asiad. According to a statement handed over to the NSC by ANKA president Lal Kumar Lama, kabaddi player´s selection and team´s participation in the Asiad was against the national sports policy.
The sports policy has suggested participation in international tournament after player´s selection and training, but no selection and training had been conducted, alleges the statements. The statement further questions how the players were selected without ANKA recommendation. Copies of statement have been forwarded to the Ministry for Youth and Sports and Nepal Olympic Committee (NOC).
Earlier, the NSC had dissolved ANKA headed by Sunil Rajkarnikar after dispute in the team at the 11th South Asian Games in Dhaka. However, NOC has recognized the ANKA headed by Rajkarnikar.
