Prez gives parties five more days

KATHMANDU, Dec 18: After political parties’ persistent failure to meet the deadline, President Dr Ram Baran Yadav extended the time-frame for the formation of consensus government by five days (till Saturday), on Tuesday.



This is a fifth time the president has extended the deadline after he formally summoned the political parties on November 23 to name their common prime ministerial candidate to lead consensus government. [break]



The president has given additional time to choose new prime minister and for the formation of the cabinet through political consensus till December 22, upon the political parties’ request, reads a press statement issued by the president’s office.



Earlier in the day, top leaders of the three major political parties and United Democratic Madhesi Front had reached the president´s office to request him yet another extension of the deadline by three to five days.
