Prez gives parties five more days

KATHMANDU, Dec 13: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav on Thursday extended the deadline for the formation of consensus government by five days.



The president, for a third time, extended the deadline upon the parties’ request after holding discussion with chiefs of the four major political forces at his office in Shital Niwas this morning. [break]



UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala, CPN-UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal and  United Democratic Madhesi Front Coordinator, Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar reached the president’s office for the discussion.



The deadline given by the president for political parties to recommend their common candidate for prime minister had expired on Wednesday.The state head had extended the time-frame twice in the past upon the parties’ request.



Last Friday, President Yadav had extended the deadline by six days after the parties failed to name a consensus PM within a weeklong time period. Before that, the president on November 29 had extended the deadline after the parties asked for more time as they failed to name the new PM.
