Seventy-two-year-old Bishnu Devi Timilsina led the function.
Over 140 other locals supported her.
According to Traffic Police Division, the buses belonging to Swoyambhu Yatayat alone were involved in 97 accidents in the area in the last six months. Six persons lost their lives and 12 got critically injured in the accidents. Neither the government nor the other stakeholders concerned have paid heed to reduce road accidents.
The Yagya was organized on Sunday as both a symbolic protest against the lack of attention of the parties concerned to control traffic accidents and to pray for the eternal peace of those who lost lives in the accident.
Traffic police have listed Chabahil areas on its black list for being accident prone. But nothing has been done to control accidents.
The area remains crowded as it has a cinema hall and a popular hospital on two sides of the road, but there is no pavement for the pedestrians. Sambhu Acharya, a participant in the religious function, said the function was also to draw the government’s attention to build pavement.
"Let the parties concerned get the message from Dhumbarahi folks’ middle-of-the-road hawan", he added.
Let’s live in peace and embrace diversity
