Petrol pump workers continue strike

MORANG, May 21: Sale of petroleum products in petrol pumps across the eastern region continues to remain affected after the talks held on Monday between petrol pump owners and workers ended inconclusively.



Both sides stuck to their respective position during the talks held at the District Administration Office, Morang yesterday.[break]



The Petroleum Workers´ Association, Eastern Regional Committee has been running a phase-wise movement since May 15 calling for increase in remuneration including the enforcement of the earlier agreement.



"We are ready to give the minimum wage fixed by the Government but they have demanded a minimum of monthly remuneration of twelve thousand and five hundred rupees", said fist Vice-president of Petroleum Dealers´ Association Mukunda Neupane.



The workers other demands including appointment letter, insurance and provident fund facilities.



There are 500 petrol pumps in operation in the eastern region where some 5,000 workers are employed, according to the Petroleum Workers Association.
