KATHMANDU, June 13: The government has allocated over Rs 670 million for feasibility studies and construction of a dozen tunnel projects in the upcoming fiscal year 2026/27.
The allocation has been included in the annual development programme recently made public for the next fiscal year.
The Ministry of Infrastructure Development has earmarked Rs 500 million for the ongoing construction of the Siddhababa Tunnel along the Butwal–Palpa road section.

Likewise, Rs 126.6 million has been allocated for the Satdobato–Ekantakuna flyover in Gwarko.
The ministry has also set aside Rs 1.148 million for the Tokha–Chhare Gurju Bhanjyang Tunnel. In addition, Rs 1.9 million has been allocated for feasibility studies of various proposed tunnel projects.
These include ambitious plans such as a tunnel linking the Bheri River in Surkhet to Danuwa Lake in Bardiya, the Dolalghat–Charnawati tunnel roadway, the Hattisar–Babai Tunnel, and the Khurkot–Chiyabari Tunnel.
Similarly, funding has been earmarked for the Shivapur–Bhalubang Tunnel Road and the Ranighat–Bhurigaun Tunnel, reflecting the government’s push to expand modern road infrastructure through difficult terrain.
