DANG, Feb 22: Nepali Congress (NC) General Secretary Kul Bahadur Gurung on Monday said that the NC would never cooperate with the UCPN (Maoist) and that there were no chances of formation of a Maoist-led government.

Addressing a press conference organized by Nepal Press Union (NPU) in Dang Monday morning, Gurung also asked party cadres to pile pressure on top leaders not to cooperate with the Maoists. [break]

Gurung argued that rumors of NC cooperating with the Maoists had gone up due to talks about government change following the formation of High Level Political Mechanism (HLPM). “But we do not want to finish ourselves by joining hands with the Maoists,” he said.

He said that neither the current government will collapse nor will the NC cooperate with the Maoists.

Another NC leader Gobinda Raj Joshi said the NC would not withdraw its support to the Madhav Kumar Nepal-led government. “The support to the government was extended after central working committee made a decision to this effect,” he further said.

“The support will not be withdrawn even though some leaders are speaking for that.”

NC leaders Sunil Bhandari and Binaya Dhwoj Chanda also accompanied the NC delegation that reached the district for addressing a party rally.
