National squad beat U-21 in practice

KATHMANDU, Jan 11: The national cricket squad defeated the U-21 team in a practice match of 40-over format by 90 runs at the TU cricket ground on Monday.



The U-21 team is training for the 11th South Asian Games while the national team is preparing for the ICC World Cricket League Division 5. [break]



Winning the toss, the national squad elected to bat and put up 193 runs losing 9 wickets in the limited 40 overs.



The national squad lost an early wicket for 14 runs as opener Mahesh Chhetri was caught LBW by Chandra Saud. However, Shakti Gauchan and Dipendra Chaudhary took the game forward. Dipendra scored 29 off 39 balls while Shakti scored 82 off 116 balls including five boundaries.



Chandra completed his five-wicket haul. His bowling figure was 5/49 off 8 overs.



In reply, U-21 were all out for 103 at the end of the 30th over.



Skipper Gyanendra Malla contributed 41 off 66 balls while Prithu Baskota scored 13 off 32 balls. No other batsman reached double-digit score. Sanjam Regmi took the highest three wicket for the national squad.



Shakti was adjudged the man-of- the-match.
