More Nepalis traveling abroad this Dashain

KATHMANDU, Oct 12: The number of Nepalis leaving for various overseas tourist destinations during the festive season is set to grow by around 40 percent if sales figures disclosed by the travel agents is anything to go by.



Travel agents that have unveiled special outbound packages targeting Nepali tourists for Dashain and Tihar said they have witnessed 40 percent growth in number of sales this year. [break]Agencies that sold 40 to 50 packages last year said they had already sold 55 to 65 packages.



"Our sales of the festive package has already gone up by 40 percent compared to festive season a year ago," said Biswash Bajracharya of NextYatra. The agency, which has sold around 300 packages for the period till Tihar, is hopeful of more sales during post-Dashain period as well.



“Although the holiday gets over by Dashain, people are in the festive mood and willing to travel till Tihar,” said he.



Arihant Holiday that commenced operations only recently is also overwhelmed by sales numbers. “We are very glad with the kind of welcome we received from the customers,” said Girish Jain, managing director of Arihant Group, referring to ´good sales´ he enjoyed on festive package.



The agency had introduces different packages for Dashain only, but it is so excited by the response of the customers that it is soon unveiling more festive packages valid till November. “Our new package will be focused on Indian destinations and will be priced Rs 9,000 onwards,” Jain stated.



Unlike the previous years´ packages, the agencies this year had added new destinations and varieties in their packages. This year they had included destinations like Hong Kong, Mauritius, Maldives, Sri Lanka, Dubai and others.



However, the more attraction still continues to be on the packages of Bangkok and Malaysia, according to tour operators.



“There has been massive change in the requirements of the travelers, they are more particular about their needs than before,” Bajracharya said that the interest of travelers was also in customized package lately.



Narad Luitel of Success Travels said that there was tremendous increment up to 30 percent in the number of bookings for outbound packages and the packages of Bangkok was still among the top choices.



According to the officials, there was also a lot of change in the category of the travelers this season. “People from different profession and income level are purchasing the package,” Sadichha Shrestha, corporate communication officer of AceTravels.com said.



She further said that because of the affordability of the outbound package many people were flying abroad this festive season that may be to meet family members, relatives or simply to enjoy family vacation.
