KATHMANDU, April 14: The government led by Prime Minister Balen Shah has decided to continue the prestigious diplomatic initiative ‘Sagarmatha Dialogue,’ which was introduced by the previous government under the leadership of CPN-UML.
According to the national commitment document made public by the government, the program will be carried forward through policies and programs with the aim of establishing Nepal as a global leader on issues related to climate change and the Himalayas. Clause No. 14 of the document explicitly mentions the continuation of the ‘Sagarmatha Dialogue.’
Earlier, the election manifesto of CPN-UML had presented the ‘Sagarmatha Dialogue’ as an important platform to strengthen economic diplomacy and expand Nepal’s international influence.

Announced by the Government of Nepal in 2019, the ‘Sagarmatha Dialogue’ is a multilateral global forum. It primarily focuses on climate change and aims to advance Himalayan diplomacy at the international level.
Its main objective is to draw global attention to the serious impacts of climate change in the Himalayan region. The platform brings together heads of state, government leaders, environmentalists, rights activists and representatives of civil society from various countries for meaningful discussions.
The first edition of the dialogue was successfully held in May last year, and the government has expressed its commitment to continue it in the coming days.
