Speaking at the interaction, Yogendra Shakya, national coordinator of NTY 2011 campaign, said the target of welcoming one million tourists in the country can´t be achieved without political consensus to form peaceful environment in the country. “If bandas and strikes are not discouraged, the government should mull dropping the campaign instead of launching it,” Shakya added.
In the interaction, former ministers emphasized on the need to bring about improvements at Tribhuvan International Airport and increase accommodation and other facilities for tourists.
Former tourism minister Bal Bahadur KC said tourism development would not be possible without peace and stability.
Speaking on the occasion, former tourism minister and UCPN (Maoist) leader Hisila Yami said they can´t commit against organizing bandas. “Though we organized bandas, we have instructed our cadres not to disturb the movement of foreign visitors,” she added.
