A cabinet meeting held in Singha Durbar this afternoon decided to make the recommendation to the state head for an amendment to the Judicial Council Act 2047 for the purpose, Minister for Information and Communications Raj Kishore Yadav informed. [break]
According to the Judicial Council Act 2047, parliamentary hearings are mandatory before appointing apex court justices. With five temporary justices completing their tenure today, the apex court would be left with only six permanent justices,including the chief justice.
The procedure for appointment of justices at the SC has been in limbo due to the absence of parliament. Meanwhile, Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai has reached the president´s office to submit the ordinance for endorsement.
