Govt creates 6,010 more posts in Nepal Police

KATHMANDU, May 16: The Interim Election Council has decided to create an additional 6,010 posts in the Nepal Police. Responding to a demand of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MoHA), a cabinet meeting on Thursday afternoon took a decision to this effect.



According to sources, one new post of superintendent of police (SP), 29 posts of deputy superintendent of police (DSP), 76 for inspectors and 423 for sub-inspectors (SIs) are to be created. [break]



Similarly, 708 posts of assistant sub-inspectors (ASI), 1,267 head constables, 3,370 constables and 139 posts of followers are to be created.



Minister for Information and Communications Madhav Poudel, who is also the government´s spokesperson, said the government created the additional posts for deployment along the highways, on temporary beats and in the metropolitan city.



According to him, 1,714 out of the 6,010 additional posts will be for security at judicial bodies.



The cabinet decision comes at a time when voices are being raised that the Interim Election Council, which has been formed solely to hold fresh polls, cannot take any decision of long-term impact.



The cabinet meeting also decided to provide lands at Chaurdahari in Rukum district and Phidim in Panchthar district for the development of planned residential areas.



Similarly, the cabinet meeting has cleared the way for seeking Rs 8.6 billion in loan and grant from the World Bank.
