An elderly woman, who waited hours outside the Dharan branch of Rastriya Banijiya Bank, said, “We were happy to learn that the local administration was finally paying our social security allowance. But we were disappointed when we received only part of the amount. We have not been told why the amount had been deducted from our allowance,” said the elderly woman. [break]
This is not the first time the government has deducted the amount from the social security allowance. The government has said that the amount was used for paying the Maoist combatants who opted for voluntary retirement. According to DDC, the government had only allocated Rs 200 million, while it needs a total of Rs 230 million to pay social security allowances to the elderly and single women in the district.
