Chinese state councilor arriving on Monday

Kathmandu, June 21: Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi is arriving in Kathmandu on Monday on a three-day official visit to Nepal, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said Friday.



The spokesperson for the MOFA, Arjun Bahadur Thapa said Yang will be here, leading a 27-member delegation. “The Chinese State Councilor will arrive on 24 and leave on 26,” Thapa said at a regular press briefing at the ministry today. He will arrive in Nepal after visiting Myanmar. [break]



During his meeting, Yang will hold meetings with Acting President Paramananda Jha, Chairman of Interim Election Council Khil Raj Regmi, Minister and Home Minister Madhav Ghimire and other top dignitaries.



Yang is currently serving as one of the most prominent architects of China´s foreign policy under Li Keqiang. Yang, who holds the rank of a deputy prime minister, is a seasoned Chinese diplomat and was recently elevated as state councilor in charge of foreign relations. He is a former foreign minister of the country, who last visited Nepal in 2009.



Yang will be the first high-ranking Chinese government official to visit Nepal since the new leadership took over in November last year.
