Those killed in the incident include Ram Babu Baskota, 50; Krishna Baskota, 27; Suvechha Baskota, 4; Rekha Khanal, 30; Laxmi Khanal, 45, of Kirtipur Municipality of Kathmandu; Ram Chandra Rijal, 60, of Matatirtha, Kathmandu, and Bishnu Prajapati, 25, of Bhaktapur. [break]
Those injured are Goma Khanal, Deepak Khanal, Maiya Khanal, Madhu Sudan Khanal, Bhawani Khanal, Sabitri Khanal, Urmila Khanal, Basanta Khanal, Basu Rupakheti, Bhagwati Baskota, Kaili Aama, Keshav Acharya and Sulochana Acharya.
The injured passengers are undergoing treatment at Bharatpur Hospital and College of Heath Sciences Teaching Hospital. Some of the injured have been taken to Kathmandu by their relatives for further treatment.
The accident happened as the bus fell off a bridge half-an-hour after midnight.
“Immediately after we crossed Mugling, where we had dinner, the driver lost control of the bus at a turn,” Kapil Baskota, a passenger who escapes uninjured, said.
The bus left Kathmandu on Thursday evening.
The driver and his assistant are out of contact, according to police.
The injured said that as the police reached late after the incident, the passengers were looted after the accident. “I was unable to move, some people came and took away the money and jewelry,” injured Urmila Khanal said.
