A meeting of the parties held at the prime minister´s official residence at Baluwatar also asked the government to seek latest statistics and details of the Maoist combatants currently living in cantonments. The government is asked to make formal request to this effect to UNMIN through Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction.
According to CPN (ML) General Secretary CP Mainali, the meeting concluded that UNMIN did not fulfill its responsibility to monitor Maoist combatants sincerely. The UNMIN seemed unaware even as over 1,600 of the 4,000-plus disqualified deserted their cantonments much before the release process began.
Mainali said the ruling parties expressed dissatisfaction as UNMIN failed to provide details about even those verified combatants. UNMIN had just provided the list of names without their home address, photos, and other particulars of the individual combatants in many cases.
The ruling parties claimed that the Maoists were receiving government allowance even in the name of those who have already left the cantonments and using the money for some other purposes.
