KATHMANDU, June 2: In order to provide a platform for an interaction and discussion to foster democratic practices amongst the youth in this crucial time of political transition, Youth Initiative is organizing a three-day residential program on the theme of “Political Culture, Democracy and Society.”

The program is being held on Friday and Saturday, June 17 to 19, at Budol, Banepa.[break]

The program for Nepali youth leaders aims to foster and strengthen democratic practices in the Nepali society by understanding, learning, reflecting on the current contexts and planning together for future actions.

This is the third batch of the program.

“Political culture is often related to and understood as part of the mainstream politics here. But there’s so much beyond that. So this program intends to shed light on how political culture and non-political issues are related to democracy,” said Anita Preeti Thapa, President of Youth Initiative (YI).

“So this is a common forum for people from both partisan and non-partisan groups to share their ideas,” she added.

Relevant speakers will be dwelling on political culture during the program. The three-day program will include team building activities, cooperative games, sharing of experiences, discussions of different issues, learning from experts’ insights, using audio visual and reflecting and supporting each other.

The first day focuses on political culture, the second day on democracy and society, and on the third day, participants will be reviewing the activities of the previous two days.

“So the program isn’t about lectures but about the issues the participants have to share and how we can learn together,” added Thapa.

The event intends to raise awareness about political opportunities among young people, provide a common forum for Nepali youth from diverse backgrounds, to share insights and experiences about Nepali political culture, to discuss individual opportunities in democracy, to learn about approaches and methodologies to facilitate change, and to develop a shared vision of a democratic and prosperous Nepal.

There are 24 seats for the program, and a fee of Rs 500 includes travel expenses, food, and accommodation and training materials.

To participate in the program, download the form from www.youth.org.np and send it to programs@youthinitiative.org.np or you can also get the form from Youth Initiative’s office at Himshikhar Marga, Shanti Nagar, Kathmandu and submit it by 5 pm on June 14.
