DHANGADHI, Feb 8: The agitating cadres of Young Communist League (YCL) withdrew their protests after central leaders from the UCPN (Maoist) on Wednesday assured them of fulfilling their four-point demand.

YCL leaders agreed to withdraw their protests after the central leaders, during the talks held at the Lisnegram Brigade camp on Wednesday, vowed to fulfill their demands that include felicitating former Maoist combatants with appreciation letters.[break]

Finance Minister Barshaman Pun, who is also a deputy commander of the Maoist´s People´s Liberation Army, gave such assurance to YCL leaders.

Min Bahadur Kuwar, Seti-Mahakali in-charge of YCL, said they withdrew the protests after the party´s central leaders vowed to fulfill their demands.

Pun said the party has agreed to honor the combatants who had left the cantonments to join the YCL with appreciation letters, make an appropriate arrangement for the livelihood of injured YCL cadres and take initiatives to provide relief packages for their treatment from the ministry of peace and reconstruction.

The finance minister also informed that YCL members and combatants opting for voluntary retirement will enjoy similar status in YCL.

According to him, the appreciation letters shall be distributed after two weeks once the YCL central committee provides in exact figures the total number of combatants to retire voluntarily.

Saying that they had left the cantonments as per the party leaders´ instruction to join the Maoist party´s campaign for the Constituent Assembly polls, YCL cadres took to the streets since Monday demanding facilities on par with the Maoist´s PLA combatants opting for voluntary retirement.

They had padlocked all the district offices of the Maoist party in the far-western region.
