KATHMANDU, Jan 8: Apurba Neupane enjoys painting, writing funny poems and stories with morals in them. The 16-year-old student is studying science at Trinity International College and describes himself as someone who prefers to stay quiet.

How did your interest in writing and painting generate?

I was in class six when I discovered that I liked to sketch and paint. My parents would always encourage me and that motivated me to try harder and see if I could be better. I do mostly still-life paintings. The sad thing is that there are no classes where I can sharpen my skills. I will either have to learn with children to draw birds and animals or jump up to serious art classes. I started writing as a class nine student and I would write short essays about my holidays. I enjoy writing stories which involve animals and have a moral in them; something like Aesop’s Fables. I also write funny poems. For instance, I wrote about a mosquito.

How do you plan on making your high school years memorable?

I want to make sure that I participate in many extracurricular activities during these two years. Be it art, elocution, debate or essay writing, I want to participate in all. But sometimes, such competitions are held just a few days or weeks before the examinations and then I find myself in a dilemma.

What’s that one advice which you truly believe in?

My parents have always taught me that time is very precious. From them I’ve learnt that it’s very important not to waste time and to utilize it properly.

What are your hobbies?

I enjoy listening to music, and when I’m painting I mostly listen to Eminem. I find him inspiring because his songs aren’t about just materialistic things but about struggling and winning. I like exploring and going for long walks. My plan is to walk from Balkhu to Tau Daha with just music to keep me company.

What are your plans for the future?

After I complete my class 12 board examinations, I’m planning to do an exhibition of my paintings. I’m working on it right now. I want at least 16 paintings on display. Regarding my further education, I haven’t yet decided between studying medicine and IT. I would also like to learn graphic designing. Painting will always be a hobby.
