US aid for justice project

KATHMANDU, Feb 24: The US Agency for International Development (USAID) has approved S1.7 million assistance to its ´increase access to justice program´ in Nepal for next two years from Wednesday.



According to a press release issued by the US Embassy in Nepal, the program aims at improving access to justice for society´s most vulnerable groups, expediting delivery of justice through alternative dispute resolution mechanism and improving administration of courts. The project would be implemented by The Asia Foundation.



The release quoted Dr Kevin Rushing, Mission Director of USAID/Nepal, as saying: “In post-conflict settings like Nepal, re-establishing and strengthening the rule of law is crucial to ensure the transition to peace and to enable development. "
