Talking to reporters in Biratnagar on Saturday, Chemjong said, “UNMIN has not been cooperating with the government by not providing the number of combatants.”
The government has asked UNMIN to make available the number of combatants in view of reports that many combatants have deserted the cantonments and the monthly salaries being given to them are being misused by the Maoist party. But UNMIN has so far declined to divulge the number to the government questioning the use of the information.
“The non-cooperation on the part of the UNMIN has hampered the peace process,” he said. The minister also revealed that the government plan to directly handover the money to the combatants has been delayed due to the UNMIN´s refusal to provide the name-list.
The peace minister also argued that process of the integration and rehabilitation of the Maoist combatants has also been delayed due to UNMIN´s non-cooperation.
