KATHMANDU, June 8: The medical team of All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) disqualified two schools from the PABSON President Mega Cup Football Tournament on Tuesday for fielding over-aged players.

Adarsha Bidhya Mandir from Kaski and Everest School from Sarlahi were declared ineligible to compete in the tournament as the two schools had a majority of players above the age of 16. [break]

Doctor Binamra Bista, appointed by the ANFA, made the players participating in the tournament undergo medical tests to determine their age. Bista disqualified 11 players from Everest and the all the team members of Adarsha Bidhya Mandir.

Doctor Bista who had examined the players said that he has just taken simple test to know their actual age.

“The growth of teeth, bone and calf muscles were checked and lots of players failed in the test. The players participating in the tournament do not know their date of birth and their school-name,” said Bista.

“The test was taken so that the game can be played in a safe mode,” he added.

About 50 percent of the 12 participating teams had brought over-aged players who failed in the medical test run by the organizers. Beside the two teams that were disqualified, other four schools were also found guilty but they can compete in the tournament.

Doctor Bista banned three players of Police School, Dang; two players of Butwal Elite English School, Rupandehi; six players of Gem School, Sunsari; and four players of Marigold School, Kaski.

The disgruntled players and officials created a scene during the second day of the tournament at the Laboratory School ground.

The match between Gem School and Everest School came to a halt as the majority of players were not allowed to play because they did not meet the age requirements.

Gem School was announced the winner as Everest failed to field a minimum of seven players.

Assistant coach of Gem School Indra Magar said that the medical test that was taken prior to the match was not suitable and the method the doctor took the test was not fair. “We know the actual age of the players as they grew in front of us.”

Mahesh Shrestha, assistant coordinator of the tournament, said that they had given clear guidelines to the participating schools to bring the players below the age of 16. “If the teams fail to meet the guidelines which we have issued we will disqualify the team,” he said.
