An outbreak in Pathari of Morang district that occurred after a gas cylinder explosion completely damaged five houses. Regional Police Office in Biratnagar said Lila Bahadur Khadka, 85, died in the fire on Friday morning.
“After the sudden explosion and fire, Khadka could not leave his house owing to his age and ailment, while others escaped unharmed,” said Ramesh Limbu, one of the victims.
Limbu added that people focused on dousing the fire, forgetting about Khadka.
Meanwhile, in Lafyang-5 of Khotang district, 4-year-old Panchabir Rai died in a fire that broke out on a hay stack. His elder brothers 6-year-old Bal Bahadur and 8-year-old Maj Kirant suffered serious burn injuries and have been sent to Kathmandu for treatment, police said. Meanwhile, property worth Rs 3 million was destroyed after a fire engulfed around 34 houses at Pachgai in Hariharpur-4 of Kapilbastu district on Friday afternoon.
However, no human casualty has been reported so far.
The fire broke out from the house of Gopi Gupta at around 2 p.m. Police said the fire could have broken due to short circuit.
Rescue squads of Nepal Army, Nepal Police, Armed Police Force and locals battled for around two hours to control the inferno.
