JANAKPUR, Dec 8: Acting upon complaints from local businessmen, the police on Monday night arrested two activists of the Rajib Jha-led Janatantrik Tarai Mukti Morcha (JTMM) on extortion charge in Siraha. The arrested, Ram Shovit Yadav alias Paras Mukti and Indra Dev Mandal, were allegedly involved in forcefully collecting donations from local businessmen.

According to Police Inspector Krishna Prasain, Yadav is also a member of the JTMM´s talks team, which is currently holding talks with the government. Yadav and Mandal were arrested with receipts, Prasain added.

In an agreement with the Ministry of Peace and Reconstruction, the outfit had agreed not to collect donations. Rajiv Jha, the head of the outfit, claimed that the police had called Yadav and Mandal at the police office and arrested them there. Jha also accused the government of not being serious toward the ongoing talks for peace.

However, Deputy Superintendent of Police Sanu Thapaliya said they were arrested acting upon the complaints from local businessmen. In the meantime, the police also arrested Hari Govinda Yadav from Pokhariya. He was involved in a number of criminal activities in the district, said the police.
