KATHMANDU, April 13: Top leaders of the major parties are set to hold interparty talks at the Constituent Assembly (CA) building, New Baneshwor, on Monday afternoon.

The meeting was called at the initiation of CA Chairman Subas Chandra Nembang following the CA meet scheduled for 3 pm today. The CA meet, however, would be deferred by at least four to five days with view to seek consensus on disputed issues of the new constitution after passing a proposal condoling the death of Salim Miya Ansari, former CPN-UML parliamentarian, who was later associated with Unified CPN-Maoist. Ansari died on Friday.

Although the CA meeting was called for today in a bid to forward the CA's set procedures after there was no consensus with opposition parties on key contentious issues of the new statute within today's deadline, ruling parties however decided to defer the meeting for some time as the opposition parties sought some more time for consensus considering their request.

Opposition parties including main opposition UCPN (Maoist), which are boycotting the CA meeting after ruling parties initiated the majority process in drafting the new constitution, are also set to participate today's meeting.

Today's CA meeting is a symbolic one as opposition parties including UCPN (M) are formally returning to CA from this meeting.
