GORKHA, July 17: The country’s only one tyre factory – Gorakhkali Rubber Factory – is closed for an indefinite period from Friday.

Employees and workers of the factory have launched an agitation, demanding salary hike and recently made appointment, thus bringing manufacturing and distribution of its products to a standstill.

All Nepal Industrial Workers’ Union, Gorkhali unit, has demanded hike in the salary of workers and annulment of UML leader Hari Prasad Kafle’s appointment in the post of advisor.

Earlier on Thursday, workers padlocked the production unit of the factory to pressure the management to meet their demands, said Krishna Pokharel, union chairman.
