SPORTS BRIEFS: TIA wins opener

KATHMANDU: Host Trungram International Academy (TIA) and Innovative won their respective matches in the boys´ section as the 10th TIA Cup Inter School Basketball Tournament kicked off in the capital on Sunday. TIA beat KISC 29-27 in the opening match while Innovative edged past Gyan Niketan 47-30. Likewise, Kathmandu Valley thrashed Himalaya 37-20 and Neric defeated Greenland 23-22. Minar pulled a 21-16 victory over Nawajeevan and Baba humbled Bhadrakali 57-37.



Departmental teams win

DHANGHADI (REPUBLICA): Departmental teams Armed Police Force (APF) and Nepal Army Club won their respective matches on Sunday in the First Women´s National Football League being held in Dhanghadi, Kailali. Laxmi Paudel netted a brace in APF´s 2-0 win over Eastern Region. Paudel scored in the 36th and 52nd minute. Earlier, Anu Lama had given fifth minute lead to the winning side. In another match, Nepal Army Club edged past Central Region 2-0. Mainsh Chaudhary put Army ahead in the 31st minute and Deepa Adhikari doubled the tally in the 71st minute. Western Region will lock horns against Nepal Police Club during the first match on Monday and Mid-western Region will take on Far-western Region in another match.
