Nepal Taekwondo Association decided to send the players for the championship as preparation for the Asiad instead of sending them for abroad training after the government failed to release budget for the Asiad.
The members of the Nepali team are Kumar Manandhar, Sujan Pujari, Sujan Joshi, Ashish Maharjan, Ram Bahadur Aire and Yadav Poudel in men´s category.
In the women´s category are Yan Kumari Chaulagain, Laxmi Rana, Ayasha Shakya, Sabina Maharjan, Manita Shahi and Rasana KC.
Shakya wins gold in inter-school judo
Prawan Shakya of GEMS won gold medal in the boys´ U-55 kg category on the first day of the Triyog Inter-school Judo Championship on Thursday. Shakya defeated Samlagna Upadhyaya of Nepal Police School in the final match held at Triyog High School, Dhapasi. In boys´ U-45 kg, Ashwin Pulami of Nuwakot defeated Suraj Mitrakoti of JP High School to claim the title. Likewise, Anuj Banskota of GEMS edged out Prajwal Shakya of Bhanubhakta in the final of boys´ U-35 kg. Manish Agrawal of the hosts Triyog won the title of boys´ U-25 kg beating Abiral Mahat of GEMS in the final. In the girls´ category, Indira Bhujel of CWCN ousted Srijana Tamang of Prabhat School in the U-48 kg final to claim gold. Manita Pradhan won the U-40 kg category defeating Nishma Gautam of Triyog. Devika Maya Shrestha of Bal Bikash and Sonam Sherpa of Sahid Dharmabhakta claimed gold and silver respectively in the U-32 kg category. Likewise, Ashmita Chaudhary of Axis Academy won gold in U-27 kg defeating Swastika Subedi.
AFC support to Bista, Lama family
Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has provided financial support to the family of late Gyaljen Lama and former footballer Ranjan Bista, who is suffering from cancer.
All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) President Ganesh Thapa handed over the amount to Bista and Lama´s father Chewang on Thursday.
Bista received US$ 5,000. He had earlier received US$ 5,000 personally from AFC President Mohammed Bin Hammam.
AFC provided US$ 10,000 to Lama´s family while Hammam contributed an additional US$ 5,000. ANFA had provided Rs 66,000 for Lama´s final rites after his demise.
Lama, a young footballer, had died on July 5 this year while playing football for Mangaldweep School during the Coca-Cola Cup Inter-school Football Tournament.
“I feel like I´m reaping the reward for the toil and sweat I offered to the country long ago,” said an emotional Bista. “Such support will help me increase my ability to fight with the disease,” he added.
Lama´s father Chewang said it is difficult to forget the pain of losing a talented son. He thanked everyone for lending a helping hand during such a sorrowful moment.
ANFA President Thapa said the association is always ready to help players who are facing hardships. ANFA had earlier provided Rs 250,000 to Bista, including the amount collected from ticket sales of the A Division League. “This is our commitment toward the players,” said Thapa.
