SPORTS BRIEFS: New Diamond, WMMC in volleyball final

KATHMANDU, May 21: New Diamond and Workers Martyrs Memorial Club (WMMC) entered the final of the Laxminarayan Shrestha Memorial Cup Open Women´s Volleyball Tournament on Friday.



New Diamond defeated Angels´ Heart 25-17, 25-19, 25-12 while WMMC ousted Bijeshwari 2506, 25-10, 25-12. [break]



Meanwhile, Nepal Army set up a clash with Nepal Police in the final of the National Open Men´s Volleyball Tournament being held at the Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Center.



Army edged past Team A of the hosts Jawalakhel 25-8, 25-17, 25-14. Likewise, police overcame a stiff opposition from WMMC to secure a final berth with a 19-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-27, 15-11 win.





Thapa wins girls´ 100 m race



KATHMANDU, May 21: Anita Thapa of Bijeshwari School won the girls´ 100m race organized by Nepal Amateur Athletics Association at the Dasharath Stadium on Friday. Likewise, Binita Thapa and Karuna Thapa of Bijeshwari won the girls´ 200m and 400m race respectively.



In the girls´ 800m race, Renu Singh of Kanya Mandir won the title. Bijeshwari´s Pratigya Bhandari and Gyani Chunara secured first position in long-jump and high-jump respectively.



In the boys´ races, Nightingale´s Sudhamshu Faujdar, Rajiv Chaudhary, Amarendra Yadav and Narayan Acharya won the titles of 100m race, 400m race, 800m race and 1500m race respectively.



Arop Khan of Arunodaya School secured first position in boys´ long-jump while Nightingale´s Nilambar Thakur won the boys´ high-jump.





Players´ reunion in July



KATHMANDU, May 21: Nepal Olympic Museum (NOM) is organizing a reunion of players, coaches, officials and sports-journalists in the first week of July.



The entry fee for the Second Veterans´ Players Reunion 2067 to be held on July 2 is Rs 700 for interested people related to the sports sector. The program will be held at the DECC Hall, Tripureshwar and includes cultural show followed by dinner.



NOM informed at a press conference on Friday that the profit from the program will be utilized for running the Sports Information Center of the museum. The organizers are expecting 500 sports personalities this year.
