Selection tournament for Asian Athletics
KATHMANDU: Nepal Amateur Athletics Association announced a tournament for May 24 to 26 for selecting athletes for the Asian Athletics Championship to be held in Japan from July 7 to 10 and World Athletics Championship to be held in South Korea from August 27 to September 4. According to National Sports Council, the selection tournament includes 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 5000m and 10000m race in both men and women´s categories. Likewise, 110m hurdles in men´s and 100m hurdles in women´s category will also take place during the tournament. Meanwhile, athletes will also contest in high jump, long jump, triple jump, shot put, javelin-throw and discus-throw in both men and women´s categories.
Pakistani curator in Nepal
KATHMANDU: Ahsan Muhammad Arain, the chief curator of Karanchi National Stadium in Pakistan, arrived in Kathmandu on Monday. According to Nepal Cricket Association (CAN), Arain will help in developing cricket pitch in the under-construction Mulpani Ground. Meanwhile, Arain will help Nepali curators in the maintenance of other cricket pitch and will provide training to Nepali curators.
Chess tournament in Bhaktapur
KATHMANDU: Salhakar Memorial National Open Chess Tournament kicked off on Monday in Bhaktapur. FIDE Master Manish Hamal, Niraj Niraula, Prakash Nepal, Herakaji Maharjan, Sanjay Maharjan, Ganesh Man Duwal, Bikas Kuluju, Umesh Sainju, Madan Krishna Kayastha, Hari Chandra Chaulagain and Gyanendra Maharjan won their respective matches in the first round of the tournament. The tournament, organized by Nepal Republic Sports Federation, Bhaktapur, holds the prize money of Rs 10000 for the winner.
