Siddhartha Bahadur Singh scored for the Operation department while Manoj Sapkota scored for the Head Office team. All four teams have two points each.
Cycling team leaves for Korea
A Nepali cycling team left for Korea on Friday to participate in the 16th Asian Mountain Bike Championship. Nepali cyclists participating in the downhill category of the championship are Sajan Rajbanshi, Suraj Pandey and Kumar Pun. Ajay Pandit and Padam Sebenhang will be participating in the cross country category. Prayas Tamang is the team coach and Rupesh Man Shrestha is the team manager. The event will be held from September 26 to 30. This is the seventh time Nepal is participating in the Asian Championship.
Lama wins gold in karate
Bijay Lama clinched gold in boys´ singles kata on the first day of the Sixth Bagmati Zone Karate and Kick Boxing Tournament on Friday. Niru Rana secured the first position in girls´ singles kata held at Samakhushi. Likewise, Lakesh Thapa won gold in the boys´ 20 kg category. Altogether 435 boys and 135 girls are competing in the two-day tournament that includes 20 categories in karate and eight in kick boxing.
Shahi wins gold
Manita Shahi won the gold medal on Friday in the First India Open International Taekwondo Championship being held in Vishakhapatnam, India. Shahi, silver medalist of the 11th South Asian Games, defeated an Indian opponent in the final of women´s 62 kg weight category. Shahi won the final with a score of 4-1. Shahi has won the gold medal in the Korea Open three weeks ago. She has also been selected for the upcoming 16th Asian Games. Meanwhile, Yan Kumari Chaulagain and Sabina Maharjan claimed bronze medals in women´s 46 kg and 57 kg respectively. Chaulagain and Maharjan lost to their Indian opponents in the semifinal. Nepal Taekwondo Association has sent 13 players to India to participate in the tournament as the part of Asiad preparation.
Ullens clinch Pathshala Cup
Ullens clinched the title of Pathshala Cup First National Mini Basketball Tournament on Friday.
Ullens thrashed Valley Public School 12-7 in the final match played at the court of hosts Pathshala Nepal in Baneshwar, Kathmandu. Ramesh Bhushal and Sushil Paudel scored four points each for the winners.
Likewise, Rato Bangala School defeated New Summit 19-13 in the third place play-off. Abhaya Gauchan scored eight points for Rato Bangala.
Gauchan was adjudged the most valuable player among the boys while Rachana Ghimire of New Summit bagged the same award in the girls category.
Deepak Bhattarai of New Summit bagged the award for the highest scorer as he scored 46 points during the tournament organized by Nepal Basketball Association and Pathshala Nepal.
Altogether 12 teams have participated in the tournament. Every team has six boys and equal number of girls.
