SPORTS BRIEFS: Body builders to leave for India

KATHMANDU, Oct 24: Nepali body building team will leave for Banaras, India, on Tuesday to participate in the Second World Men´s Body Building Championship to be held from October 27 to November 1.



Daya Ram Diwakar, Sachit Pradhan and Shyam Shrestha will compete in the 55kg, 60kg and 65 kg weight categories respectively.[break]



 Meanwhile, the medalists of Seventh South Asian Body Building Championship held in Kathmandu were also awarded cash prizes on the same occasion.



Gold medalist Pradhan and Shrestha bagged Rs 15,000 each. Likewise, bronze medalist Milan Sijapati and Daya Ram Diwakar received Rs 5,000 each.



Kamal Thapa wins tennis match



Nepal´s veteran tennis player Kamal Thapa made winning start in the Veterans Tennis Tournament in Kolkata, India, on Sunday. Thapa, who had reached the semifinals of its earlier edition, crushed Y Prasad of Andra Pradesh 6-0, 6-4 in straight sets.



The tournament for players above 45 years is being organized by Akhil Bhrat Senior Tennis Association. Thapa is also the Chairman of Rastriya Prajantra Party Nepal.



Japanese to train Nepali soft ball players



Kajunori Aadachi, the national coach of Japan Soft Tennis Association (JSTA), arrived in Kathmandu on October 20 to school the soft tennis players participating in the upcoming 16th Asian Games (Asiad). Five Nepali players Ashok Singh, Sanjay Nepal, Manoj Subba, Shoan Dhawadel and Dushyanta Thapa will be training for 10 days under the instruction of Aadachi. He was invited by Nepal Soft Tennis Association.
