The leaders will discuss various issues related to constitution writing, including extending the term of the dispute resolution subcommittee formed under the Constitutional Committee (CC) and settling the disputes related to the thematic report of the state restructuring committee, among others.[break]
The term of the subcommittee, which is headed by UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, expired on May 27.
According to officials at the CA secretariat, all the subcommittee members, other lawmakers and senior leaders involved with the subcommittee will attend the meeting. Former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, Nepali Congress (NC) Parliamentary Party leader Ram Chandra Paudel, Sadbhawana Party leader Laxman Lal Karna and Kalpana Rana of CPN (Samyukta) are members of the five-member subcommittee.
Khimlal Devkota of UCPN (Maoist), Radheshyam Adhikari of NC, Agni Kharel and Sapana Malla from CPN-UML and Dr Prakash Chandra Lohani of Rastriya Janashakti Party, who have been providing expert inputs to the leaders in the subcommittee, are also invited to the meeting. Similarly, Deputy Speaker Purna Subedi, CC Chairman Nilambar Acharya will also attend the meeting.
The speaker called the informal meeting of the top leaders just ahead of the CC meeting, which is scheduled for Wednesday.
The subcommittee brought down the number of disputes in constitution writing from 83 to 21 before its term expired on May 27. Apart from these contentious issues, the CC is also likely to forward the preliminary draft of state restructuring to the subcommittee. There are 78 contentious points related to state restructuring yet to be settled.
