GAIDAKOT/ Rukum, July 4: The kin of the nine people from Gaidakot gone missing while they were on the pilgrimage in Badrinth, Kedarnath and Haridwar in India, returned home after their search for their family members turned out to be futile.

The kin returned home Wednesday night after their two weeks long search yielded no result. "The sons returned empty handed from India. Still, the situation of the nine pilgrims including my brother and sister-in-law are still unknown," said Eknath Chalise, brother of missing Kirtinath Chalise. He criticized the government of Nepal, Nepali embassy in India and police for not doing enough to search for the missing. [break]

Among the nine missing, three people -- Kirtinath Chalise, 72; his wife Jamuna Chalise, 70; and their son Harischandra, 44 -- are from the same family. The remaining six missing are Hira Devi Chalise, her husband Dev Narayan Chalise, and sister Ramkala Poudel, Netra Poudel and his wife Bishnukala Poudel, and Ishwara Lamsal of the same locality. They had left for pilgrimage on June 2 and were preparing to return home after visiting Kedarnath.

"We searched at each and every possible place in India but to no avail," a dejected Moti Chandra Chalise said. A group of seven including Moti had gone to search for the missing family members in India.

"First we reached Haridwar and informed about the incident to the police there. We scanned through the list of rescued persons but could not trace our relatives," Moti added.

They said that the Nepali embassy in New Delhi did not provide any help in the search for the missing. "Instead of providing information to us, the embassy wanted to glean information from us as they were asking who we met, and where did we look for in the search, what we saw and if there were any Nepali people stranded ," they said.

According to Moti, the mobile call details showed that the missing people had last called home while they were heading toward Kedarnath.

The disheartened kin returned home leaving the address and the photographs of their relatives at Deharadun Rescue center, which informed that they should wait for the DNA report of the people killed in the flood. Indian government had already said that the Uttarakhand food toll crossed over four thousand.
