Shiva Ram leads in the opening day

KATHMANDU, April 16: Nepal No 1 Shiva Ram Shrestha took lead in the opening day of the NPGA President's Cup golf tournament with eight-under 59 at the par-67 Royal Nepal Golf Club in Kathmandu.

Shivaram took the turn at three-under 30 and carded five-under 29 on the back nine. He carded birdies on the fourth, fifth and ninth holes before taking the turn. Shivaram began the second half with an eagle on the par-5, the 10th hole before dropping a shot on the next hole. He then carded birdies on the 12th, 13th, 16th and 18th holes.


Shivaram broke the course record at the RNGC bettering the mark of Deepak Thapa Magar and Ramesh Nagarkoti. He matched his best score of eight-under carded during the Ghana's Open at the Tribhuvan Army Officers Golf Club.

Chuda Bahadur Bhandari is second at bogey-free five-under 62, while Surya Prasad Sharma is third at two under 65 and Rame Magar is fourth at one-under 66. Pashupati Sharma, Bikash Adhikari and Purna Sharma share the fifth position at even-par 67.

In the amateur section, Tanka Bahadur Karki is at the top with one-over 68 followed by Arun Tamang at two-over 69. Bikash Bogati is a distant third at eight-over 75.

The tournament is the seventh event under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour with total purse of Rs 300,000.
