PALPA, Oct 4: A 19-year-old schoolteacher has been missing since returning from school on September 30. Bimala Khanal, who taught at the Gandaki Bright Future Boarding School, left the school at around 5 pm that day and never reached home.[break]

Khanal is a resident of Ratnapur-4 of Syangja district. Five days after her disappearance, her family members have requested the Area Police Office Ratnapur to find her.

Police recovered her cell phone, shawl and a letter from the banks of Kaligandaki River.

“The letter says don´t look for me,” said Shyam Oli, chief of the police office. Police are investigating what really happened to her -- whether she jumped into the river, was kidnapped or was murdered.

“We will ask the school staff and her family members to ascertain if the handwriting in the note is her own,” said Oli.

Locals and police have been looking for her body in the river, suspecting she might have jumped in.

Binod Khanal, the schoolteacher´s uncle, said there was no reason why she would commit suicide. “She should have been either kidnapped or killed.”

“There was no family tension. She was perfectly normal,” he added.
