SC moved against home ministers' directive

KATHMANDU, Feb 12: A writ petition has been filed at the Supreme Court (SC) on Sunday seeking the court´s order to scrap Home Minister Bijay Kumar Gachchhadar´s recent directive to provide citizenship by descent to children of citizens by birth.



The writ petition filed by advocates Prabinata Wasti and Balkrishna Neupane states that the home minister´s directive is against the law as there is no provision in the existing laws to issue citizenships by descent to the children of citizens by birth. [break]



Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, home ministry, law ministry, the ruling UCPN (Maoist) and CPN(UML) Parliamentary Party have been made defendants.
